5 Indoor Play Ideas Using Reusable Water Balloons

Indoor play idea using Reusable Water Balloons: balloon toss into a bucket

Looking for indoor play ideas that actually keep kids moving and engaged? Staying active every day isn’t just good for growing bodies – it’s key for strong minds, emotions, and habits. Guiding children to move daily helps build healthy bones, muscles, cardiovascular systems, balance, coordination, and metabolism.

It also boosts mood, reduces anxiety and stress, improves sleep and focus, and supports social skills and problem-solving – laying the foundation for lifelong well‑being.

The best part? This can happen right at home. That’s why even on rainy, busy, or indoor days, fun and active play remains essential.

While I’m usually all about encouraging outdoor adventures – rain, shine, or mud – there are definitely days when indoor play is the way to go. Whether it’s wild winter weather or just a quiet day at home, you can still keep little ones active and entertained inside with simple indoor play ideas that make the most of what you already have.

One of our favourite ways? Making the most of our reusable water balloons – soft, squishy, and mess-free fun you can enjoy all year round.

5 Indoor Play Ideas

1. Obstacle Course Balloon Carry

Set up an indoor obstacle course with a fun twist! Add a challenge where kids have to balance a reusable water balloon on a spoon or carry it between their knees – great for motor skills and guaranteed giggles.

2. Sensory Bin Fun

Reusable water balloons are perfect for sensory play. Toss them into a bin with things like rice, pompoms, scoops, fabric scraps, or little toys for a hands-on, calming activity.

3. Target Toss

Use laundry baskets, bowls or boxes as targets and challenge kids to toss the balloons in. Add point values or set a timer for extra fun.

4. “Don’t Drop It!” Game

Pass the balloon around the room without using hands – try elbows or knees! Just make sure any breakables are out of the way first…

5. Bath Time Buddy

Pop the balloons in the bath! They float, they squish, and they turn a regular soak into water play without the mess.

Ready to bring the fun inside? Grab your set of reusable water balloons here and let the play begin – no sunshine required!
