Easy Valentine’s Day Handprint Craft for Kids

A Valentine’s Day handprint craft made with children’s painted handprints turned into flower shapes on card.

Valentine’s Day crafts don’t need to be complicated to be special. Some of the most meaningful keepsakes are the simplest ones – especially when they capture those little hands that change so quickly.

This Valentine’s Day handprint craft is a simple, low-prep activity for toddlers, preschoolers, and young children. Using basic supplies, it encourages creativity and results in a sweet handprint flower artwork that parents and caregivers will treasure.

It’s perfect for toddlers and preschoolers, kindy and daycare activities, at-home crafting, or as a quick but thoughtful Valentine’s Day gift – and can easily be adapted to suit different ages, with more or less adult help as needed.

What You’ll Need

  • Card or thick paper
  • Green marker or paint (for stems)
  • Red, pink, or purple paint
  • Paintbrush or sponge
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Pen or marker for the message
  • Craft Apron

How to Make your Valentine’s Day Handprint Craft

  1. Draw the Flower Stems
Using a green marker or paint, draw several stems on the card. Add leaves if you like. Simple lines work perfectly – there’s no need for detailed drawing.
  2. Create the Handprints
Paint your child’s hand with red, pink, or purple paint. Press their hand firmly onto paper to create a clear handprint. Toddlers may need help holding their fingers open.
  3. Cut Out the Handprints
Once the paint is completely dry, carefully cut around each handprint. Older children may enjoy helping with this step under supervision.
  4. Arrange and Glue
Let your child help place the handprints at the top of the stems to create a bunch of flowers. Glue them in place and allow the artwork to dry fully.

  5. Add a Valentine’s Day Message
Finish your Valentine’s Day handprint craft by adding a message at the bottom or inside the card.

Valentine’s Day Message Ideas for Kids

Here are some simple messages that work well for toddlers and young children. You can write them for your child, or let older kids copy the words.

  • Happy Valentine’s Day. I love you a bunch!
  • I picked these flowers just for you
  • Love you always
  • Made with my hands and my heart
  • To someone I love very much
  • You make my days brighter
  • Happy Valentine’s Day from me to you

Adding your child’s name, age, and the year turns this into a lasting keepsake.

A Mess-Friendly Craft Tip

Handprint crafts can get messy, especially with toddlers. Using a wipe-clean table cover, craft apron, or old clothes helps keep clean-up simple and stress-free, so kids can focus on creating.

This easy Valentine’s Day handprint craft for kids is a lovely way to celebrate Valentine’s Day with toddlers and young children while creating something meaningful to keep.
