With Santa on his way, we thought it was time to share with you one of our favourite recipes for no bake Christmas cookies. They are super easy, and our kids love helping with the decorating (and the eating) of these Santa themed biscuits. As they look spectacular, they also make a great plate to take to those parties and school events you need to bring a plate to that happen during December.
No Bake Santa Themed Christmas Cookies
One of the best things about these cookies is they contain ingredients that you are likely to have around the home. To make these, you will need:
- 1 pack of plain sweet biscuits – you have some choices there depending upon what you’d like the cookies to end up looking and tasting like. You could pick round and plain, shortbread, gingernuts, digestives or even cream filled biscuits or wafers. We used Arrowroots.
- White chocolate to melt
- White chocolate drops/buttons
- Red sugar (simply mix together white sugar with a few drops of red food colouring in a bag or container)
- Milk chocolate drops
- Red M&Ms, Skittles or Jaffa’s
After lining the kids up next to the bench in front of the ingredients for the obligatory Christmas baking photo, it’s time to melt half of the white chocolate. Chocolate does burn easily, so slowly melt it in the microwave for 20 seconds at a time on 50%, stirring between intervals. Or you could pop it over a double boiler filled with water on the stove.
Next dip the top third of the cookie into the melted white chocolate and put onto a baking rack with paper towels or baking paper underneath to catch the drips. Before the chocolate sets, sprinkle with red sugar, and this becomes Santa’s hat. Use a bit of the melted chocolate to stick a white chocolate button on for the pompom.
Once the hat area has set, melt the rest of the white chocolate (if needed) and dip the bottom third of the biscuit in it. This is Santa’s beard. At the top of this chocolate, add the red M&M for his nose. Where his eyes should go, put two tiny bits of melted chocolate, and then add some milk chocolate drops (or other small lollies) for his eyes. Place the biscuit again on the baking rack until set.
When making these Christmas cookies, keep an eye out for kids around the melted chocolate as this will be hot. Keeping your kitchen clean and tidy could be a challenge, but if your kids are wearing Mud Mates Craft Aprons, at least their clothes won’t be!
