Searching for some Easter egg art ideas for the kids this Easter? You’ll be pleased to hear that we’re keeping away from anything chocolatey and instead sharing ideas about messy play Easter art instead! Don’t forget to dress the kids in their Craft Aprons to help keep their clothes clean and dry.
Messy Play Easter Egg Art Ideas
We’ve got two neat Easter egg art ideas we’d like to share, and they both involve using pompoms.
Pompom Flat Egg Painting
You’ll need a couple of pompoms, the same number of pegs (the ones that open and close), a few different paint colours, and a large egg shape cut out of paper or cardboard.
Clip the pompoms onto the end of the pegs and allocate one paint colour to each pompom. I find that putting paint in blobs on a paper plate or in the individual sections of an egg carton helps keep the paint colours separate.
You could use the pompoms as you would a paint brush, making strokes or colouring in, or you could dab the pompoms onto the egg shape creating little coloured circles. Leave to dry.
An alternative to painting an egg shape would be to draw an egg shape on the front of a card, and then paint it. You’ve then got a lovely Easter card to give to someone special.
Pompom Easter Eggs
You will need some glue, an egg shape cut from paper or cardboard and some different coloured pompoms.
Instead of painting with the pompoms, this art activity requires you to glue the pompoms onto the paper. Depending on the age of your child, they could either dip the pompom into the glue and then to the paper, or paint glue onto the pompom or paper itself. We found that this is great for using up all those left-over pompoms (and other bits and pieces) from previous craft activities.
We especially like how this messy play activity helps with the development of fine motor skills such as the pincer grip and manipulation of small objects.
Here in the Mud Mates blog, we’ve also got some other neat Easter messy play and craft activities for the kids too. Why not make some Rice Bubble Easter Eggs for those who can’t eat chocolate, some Colourful Marbled Eggs or these 5 Egg Carton Crafts too!
